Overview
Rain gardens use plants, soil, gravel and mulch to capture stormwater, reduce flooding and filter pollutants before they reach groundwater. Different designs will be tested in Monrovia and Paynesville during both rainy and dry seasons to determine what works best locally.
Blue-green infrastructure has not yet been widely implemented in Liberia. The project will test rain gardens as a new complement to conventional drainage infrastructure in dense, flood-prone urban communities.
