Deploying Solar Irrigation Systems for Rice Intensification Practices for Farmers. 

Liberia is piloting solar-powered irrigation and water-saving rice cultivation techniques to help smallholder farmers increase yields, strengthen food security and cope with erratic rainfall.

The project pairs solar-powered irrigation with the System of Rice Intensification to help smallholder farmers in Bong County grow more rice with less water. It introduces water-saving practices, including alternate wetting and drying, alongside training to help farmers adopt and manage the technologies. By improving water management and using solar energy, the approach aims to make rice production more resilient to erratic rainfall and strengthen local food security.
