Factsheet: Blockchain Climate Insurance in Thailand
Published on October 16, 2025
Piloting Blockchain Climate Insurance Solutions for Farmers.
Thailand is exploring blockchain-based crop insurance to lower costs, speed up payouts and help farmers recover from droughts and other climate shocks.
The proposed system would use data from weather sensors to trigger insurance payouts when predefined weather thresholds are reached. Blockchain-based smart contracts would automate payments and make the process more transparent, with the aim of reducing delays and transaction costs. The project assesses technical feasibility and economic viability and develops a roadmap for future testing and implementation, helping establish whether this approach could make crop insurance more accessible to farmers facing climate risks.
