Overview

Managed aquifer recharge deliberately replenishes underground water reserves to support supplies during dry periods. The project combines GIS drought risk maps, 3D aquifer mapping and hydrological modelling to identify vulnerable areas and suitable recharge sites in Greater Paramaribo and coastal regions.

It compares recharge technologies and develops a prioritised roadmap and system design, supported by staff training, to improve groundwater management and reduce risks from drought, over-extraction and saltwater intrusion.
