Promoting Floating Solar Systems for Women-Led Coastal Cooperatives
Senegal is assessing floating solar power to provide reliable clean energy for women-led fish processing cooperatives, improve fish preservation and strengthen coastal livelihoods in Lower Casamance.
Overview
Floating solar panels generate electricity on water without competing with agricultural land. The project will assess the feasibility of a 0.25–1 MW installation in Kaffountine and Diémbéring, prioritising women-led fish processing cooperatives. The study will examine site suitability, system design, energy storage and grid connections.
Training and business model development will support a practical deployment plan, aiming to improve energy access for fish preservation and reduce dependence on diesel.
