Introducing Restoration Techniques and Financial Models for Mangrove Restoration
Togo is combining mangrove restoration with improved fish preservation methods to reduce reliance on mangrove wood, protect coastal ecosystems and strengthen livelihoods for women and young people.
Overview
The project links mangrove restoration with improved fish preservation methods that reduce the need to burn mangrove wood for smoking. It will support reforestation on 15 hectares, train communities in restoration and conservation techniques, and help local authorities develop and enforce sustainable resource management rules.
By addressing both ecosystem degradation and the livelihood pressures behind it, the approach aims to support fisheries, reduce health risks and improve incomes for women and youth.
