Overview

Nepal is facing many climate related challenges such as floods and heat waves. Due to these events, Nepalese farmers experience millions in crop losses every year. On top of this, most of them remain uninsured since traditional crop insurance is costly and inaccessible to administer across small and scattered farms, leaving farmers highly vulnerable to climate shocks. PlantSat provides most insecure smallholder farmers with weather insurance using satellite data, which automatically triggers payouts during extreme weather events such as drought. The need for field-level loss assessment is removed from the equation which in turn reduces administrative costs and enables affordable, fast and transparent climate risk protection for farmers.
