Mozambique is designing a system that combines aquaponics, biogas and solar irrigation to help farming communities conserve water, recycle organic waste and strengthen food security.

Overview

The proposed system links fish and vegetable production with solar pumping, water storage and drip irrigation on a selected farm in the Zambezi Valley. Biodigesters and composting will turn organic waste into biogas and fertilisers, helping reduce dependence on conventional fuels and inorganic inputs.

The project will assess local needs, design and cost the integrated system, and train users, laying the groundwork for piloting and wider adoption to improve water efficiency, food security and farm incomes.
