Overview

Infiltration galleries use shallow, horizontal perforated pipes to collect groundwater across a wide area, reducing the concentrated pumping that can draw saltwater into freshwater supplies. On Nolhivaranfaru Island, the project combines this system with groundwater monitoring and training for farmers in operation, maintenance and efficient water use.

The approach aims to protect the freshwater aquifer and provide more reliable irrigation as drought and water demand put pressure on limited supplies.
